The Weight of Always Being the Strong One
Lately, I’ve been angry.
Not the kind of anger that comes and goes. The kind that settles in because you’re exhausted from always being the one holding everything together.
The one solving problems.
The one making sacrifices.
The one figuring it out when everyone else throws their hands up.
Sometimes being “strong” feels less like a compliment and more like a burden.
⸻
Nothing Was Handed to Me
I’ve fought for every little thing I’ve managed to build.
I’ve survived situations that could have broken me.
I’ve started over more times than I can count.
I’ve worked jobs I didn’t love.
I’ve gone back to school.
I’ve sacrificed sleep, comfort, and peace of mind trying to create a better future.
None of it came easy.
That’s why it’s hard for me to understand people who have no goals, no direction, and no desire to improve their situation.
⸻
I’m Building More Than a Business
People see HeartBridge Healthcare Services.
They see the website.
They see the business cards.
They see the social media posts.
What they don’t see are the late nights, the self-doubt, the financial stress, the classes, the networking events, and the constant pressure of trying to build something from the ground up.
This isn’t just about starting a business.
It’s about creating a legacy.
⸻
My Children Are My Why
The truth is, I’m not building this just for myself.
I’m building for my children.
I want them to see what perseverance looks like.
I want them to understand resilience.
I want them to know how to survive, adapt, and create opportunities for themselves.
One of my biggest fears is leaving this world before I’ve taught them everything they need to know.
That fear drives me every single day.
⸻
My Tolerance for Excuses Has Changed
The older I get, the less patience I have for excuses.
Not because I’m heartless.
Not because I don’t understand struggle.
I’ve struggled plenty.
But struggle and stagnation are not the same thing.
At some point, we all have to decide whether we’re going to remain stuck or start moving forward.
⸻
I Don’t Want to Drag People to Their Potential
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that you cannot want success more than someone wants it for themselves.
You cannot force people to grow.
You cannot drag people toward goals they refuse to pursue.
You cannot carry grown adults on your back forever.
Eventually, they have to decide to walk on their own.
⸻
I’m Looking for Builders
I don’t expect perfection.
I don’t expect people to have everything figured out.
I’m still figuring things out myself.
What I respect is effort.
Growth.
Determination.
Vision.
The willingness to get up after being knocked down and keep going.
Those are the people I want around me.
Those are the people I want to build with.
⸻
Maybe I’m Just Tired
Maybe this isn’t really about other people at all.
Maybe it’s about being tired.
Tired of carrying responsibilities.
Tired of carrying expectations.
Tired of carrying burdens that nobody else sees.
But here’s what I know:
I’m still standing.
I’m still building.
I’m still fighting for the future I want for my children.
And no matter how tired I get, I’m not giving up.
Question for my readers: Have you ever reached a point where you felt exhausted from carrying everyone else’s weight while trying to build your own future? How did you handle it?
