People often think confidence comes from having the perfect job, the perfect body, or having everything figured out.

For me, confidence came after I lost myself.

When I finally left my abusive relationship, I didn’t feel strong. I felt broken. I carried guilt, shame, and so many unanswered questions.

Why did I stay so long?

How did I become someone who accepted so little?

Where was the woman who used to dream so big and believe in herself?

I didn’t know how to put the pieces of my life back together.

So I started writing.

Page after page, I poured out the emotions I had carried for years. Instead of keeping everything bottled up, I gave my pain somewhere to go. Writing became part of my healing. It helped me face my emotions instead of running from them, and little by little, I began finding peace with the choices I had made.

Forgiving myself wasn’t easy.

In many ways, it has been one of the hardest parts of my journey.

But confidence didn’t return because everything suddenly became perfect.

It returned because I chose to learn who I was all over again.

I discovered that confidence isn’t about never being broken.

It’s about believing you’re worthy of rebuilding.

As I healed, I learned how to love myself again. I stopped settling for less than I deserved and started believing I was worthy of respect, kindness, and peace.

Today, I know what healthy love feels like.

To be loved unconditionally and treated with genuine respect is one of the most beautiful feelings in the world—but I first had to believe I deserved that kind of love.

That’s what confidence after 40 has looked like for me.

Not becoming someone new.

Remembering who I was before the world convinced me I wasn’t enough.

And every day, I continue choosing her.
